A New Year´s Eve detective party game for 6-8 players
The thirty-first of December, a country house outside Moscow, an hour before midnight. Lev Barsky, a retired theatre director, has gathered the few people he still calls his own.
At five to twelve he stands up and says he has signed his will. The sealed envelope is in a box on the mantelpiece, in plain sight of everyone. The house goes to one of the people sitting at this table.
At 23:59, one minute before the chimes, every light in the house goes out at once. The power comes back three minutes later. The box is open and the envelope is gone.
NOBODY DIES
This is a theft, not a murder, so it plays at a festive table without spoiling the mood.
WHAT IS INSIDE
8 characters with motives and private secrets (6 required plus 2 for a larger party)
12 clues the host reveals across three rounds
A complete host script: what to say, when to reveal a clue, what to ask when the conversation stalls
A two-page resolution written to be read aloud like the last chapter of a detective novel
A print version: character cards and clues on separate sheets
HOW IT WORKS
1. Open the file - it runs in any browser, on a phone or a laptop.
2. Set how many people are playing.
3. Pass the device around - each guest reads their role in private.
4. Then run the evening from the screen: three rounds, a vote, the reveal.
Nothing to install. No internet needed.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
The case is genuinely solvable. Alibis are checked minute by minute, every suspect has their own window of time, and the culprit follows from a few logical steps rather than a guess. A player paying attention can work it out. A player holding the culprit´s card can fight back.
A red herring is built in on purpose: one innocent character has no alibi, and they are the one who gets accused. Almost every time.
